Note: The terms USERNAME, USER ID and LOGIN
ID are interchangeable. You may see one term or the other in different programs. They all
mean exactly the same for Internet purposes.
1. Windows 95 OR 98
A. Changing the dial-up phone number
1. To change the dialup phone number, you must change it in
DIALUP NETWORKING properties.
2. Go to MYCOMPUTER, DIALUP NETWORKING.
3. Click on the gv.net connection, then FILE, PROPERTIES.
4. Look for the phone number and change it there.
5. Click "OK" to accept the phone number
change.
B. Changing the username or password
1. To change the username or password, bring up your
"Shortcut to gv.net" dialup networking icon
2. Change the name and/or password there.
3. Once a successful connection is made, the changes will
remain.
C. Checking Your Dial-Up Networking Settings in Windows
95/98.
1. Follow steps 1, 2 and 3 in section A above.
2. Click the "Server Types" tab (in Windows98) or
button (in Windows 95)
3. The "Type of Dial-Up Server" should be
PPP; Windows 95; Windows NT 3.5; Internet (in Win 95) or
PPP: Internet, Windows NT Server, Windows 98 (in Win98)
4. Uncheck every box except "TCP/IP"
5. Click "OK" to accept the changes. (Changes will
be effective the next time you dial up).
2. Windows 3.1
A. Changing the dial-up phone number
1. To change the dialup phone number, username, or
password in Windows 3.1, go to TRUMPET WINSOCK.
2. Click on DIALER, SETUP.CMD.
3. Follow the prompts for the phone number, login name, and
password.
4. Go to FILE, PPP OPTIONS. Be sure AUTHENTICATION is enabled
5. Enter the new login and password.
