Email Error Messages and Problems

1.  Error Message: "Error getting network address for mail.gv.net"

A.  Possible causes:

  1. You have probably become disconnected.  Re-connect and try again.  If you frequently become disconnected, see section on disconnects.

  2. Possible incorrect DNS search addresses. Be sure your DNS search addresses are:  192.168.1.2, 192.168.1.3.


2.  Eudora Will Send Short Messages, but Not Long Ones

A.  Possible cause:

  1. Ususally a bad modem


3.  Error Message:  "Need recipient"

A.  Possible causes:

  1. No recipient entered

  2. Nickname problem.

    Eudora will not work properly if you used an e-mail address as a nickname.


4.  Error Message: "The recipient is not acceptable to your SMTP server"

A.  Possible cause:

  1. Bad email address


5.  Unable to View Attachments such as Photos or MS Word Documents

A.  Possible causes:

  1. Incorrect settings in Eudora Light.

    If you have Eudora Light, please check the version that you have. If you have Windows 95/98 and have a version of Eudora Light less than 3.0, we recomend downloading an updated version.   To do so, click HERE and follow the instructions to begin.

  2. You may not have the application program that created the file attachment.

6.  Returned Email - User Unknown

A. Possible Causes:

  1. Incorrect Email address

  2. Occasionally, misconfiguration of recipient's server
